Thursday evening, a young black bear in Harrisonburg brought out curious onlookers and police officers before it was eventually sedated by an official from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
The nearly two hour incident began with a brief chase through downtown and ended near a wooded lot behind L&S Diner.
No one was injured and no adult bears were seen in the area.
According to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, bears are common throughout the Valley and found sporadically throughout the rest of the state. The black bear does not have natural enemies except for man.
Sedating an animal, as done Thursday, allows it to be relocated away from populated areas without having to use lethal force.

The bear is carried away shortly after 9 p.m. after being sedated and running toward a yard off of Rock Street.
Nice shots, Evan.
Great Job. The pictures are great and they really tell the story.
