Tuesday afternoon James Madison University announced upcoming traffic changes related to the construction of the pedestrian tunnel under South Main Street to the Performing Arts Center.
On Monday, May 5, southbound traffic on S. Main Street between Cantrell Avenue and Bluestone Drive will be rerouted to High Street.
Altered traffic patterns around the construction area are expected to continue through August 2.
According to university spokesman Don Egle, no plans are immediately available for if and when the northbound lane will be affected, but notice will be provided to the public if that does occur.
During construction this summer, blasting will occur to penetrate the bedrock. According to a press release from the university, these blasts will occur during the day and will be preceded by three warning horns. After blasting, one long, all-clear horn will sound.
